EVERETT, Wash. – The Evergreen Premier League flies into new territory with the announcement that Everett Jets FC will join the league for the 2020 season. The Jets become the league’s 12th team and the first club to call Snohomish County home. The brand new club will play their home games at Everett Memorial Stadium and will join the Cascade Conference competing against Bellingham United, the Seattle Stars, Oly Town Artesians, Yakima United and Tri-Cities Alliance for a spot in the EPLWA playoffs.
The Everett Jets are owned and operated by Hawk and Marco Mummey, the sons of Snohomish Soccer Dome and Snohomish Skyhawks owner Pablo Mummey, and have been in the planning stages for well over a year before being admitted to the EPLWA and will hit the ground running, building a fan-focused and player-empowering club for Everett and Snohomish County.
“We have been planning, campaigning, and working with the community on this for years now,” said Marco. “We know this is a giant step forward for the Everett soccer community. Our vision for this club from the onset was always to help bring the community closer through the beautiful game.”
The move into Everett brings statewide, elite amateur soccer back to town and bridges a big gap for the Evergreen Premier League, who have been absent from soccer rich Snohomish County to this point. It also gives Bellingham United their closest geographical rival and expands the league’s footprint.
“In order to create Home Team Heroes you need roots in your community. That is what Marco and Hawk Mummey bring to the EPLWA with their Everett Jets Football Club,” said EPLWA President Tim Busch. “Both grew up playing soccer in the Snohomish area and the brothers have already begun a marketing campaign in Everett to familiarize the community with the club they will launch next spring. Congratulations Hawk and Marco and welcome to our EPLWA soccer family.”
The Jets have been active on social media and in the community with active Instagram and Facebook accounts (not to mention website and Twitter) and a number of sponsors already on board. They have also organized the Jet City Faithful supporters group and plan on having pregame events for supporters. And now that they have a league to play in, they will turn their attention to building a community focused coaching staff and squad that will be handed some ambitious goals in their first season.
“Our goal, as it will be every year, is to bring a championship home to Everett,” said Hawk Mummey. “Of course we know this is competitive league with a lot of great talent but he expectation we have set for year one is to make the playoffs and be a top team in the Cascade Conference.”
“The EPLWA has been a major player in helping develop local players and allowing another platform for them to showcase their skills,” continued Marco. “We aim to bring that same model to the Everett soccer community. At the same time we are striving to build a game day experience that is fun, exciting, and family friendly and that the community can rally behind. Joining the EPLWA allows us to accomplish both our goals to develop local talent and unite the strong Everett soccer community.”
